Why Apple Reminders isn’t a GTD system (and how Clarify uses it as a bridge)
Apple Reminders wins on defaults: free, preinstalled, Siri-deep, and good enough for many lists. iOS keeps making capture smarter. That does not make Reminders a GTD system.
What Reminders does well
- Fast capture from anywhere on the device
- Time and location alerts
- Shared lists for family or light collaboration
- Zero setup cost
Where GTD needs more
A trusted personal system usually needs:
- Clarification — each item becomes a next action, project step, deferral, or trash.
- Next Actions — a calm list of doable work, not every open loop.
- Waiting For — delegated items with who you’re waiting on.
- Weekly Review — a ritual that keeps the system current.
- Projects & Contexts — outcomes and filters that match how you engage.
Reminders can approximate pieces of this with lists and sections. It doesn’t center the clarify → next-action → review loop.
Clarify’s recommended pairing
Use Reminders for native capture and alarms. Use Clarify as the system of record.
With Lifetime Pro, optional two-way sync can map a Reminders list to Inbox or Next Actions. Enable that after the core loop feels useful—see Getting Started and the Reminders sync guide.
